Meguro Kogaku Melcon

The Melcon is a 35mm rangefinder camera produced by Meguro Kogaku Kogyo in Japan during the 1950s. It is a Leica screw-mount copy built in modest numbers for the domestic market, which makes surviving examples comparatively scarce outside Japan.

Hammer prices for the Melcon at UK auction have sat in a tight £650–£800 band across the recorded sales, with a median around £725. Scarcity supports the value of clean examples, and as of today the worth of a Melcon at saleroom level is driven more by collector demand for Japanese Leica copies than by any spread of recent comparables — only a handful of UK hammer results are on record, the most recent dating from 2016.
