Rollei 35
The Rollei 35 is a compact 35mm viewfinder camera introduced by Rollei in 1966. It uses scale (zone) focusing and a collapsible lens to keep the body unusually small for a full-frame 35mm film format. When new it was positioned as a premium pocketable camera for travel and everyday use.
At recent UK auction, hammer prices for the Rollei 35 have spanned roughly £40 to £180, with a median around £100 — wholesale saleroom results that exclude buyer's premium. Through 2024 and into 2026, tidy working examples have typically sold for £70 to £160, while rougher or cosmetically tired bodies have dropped to around £40. What a given camera is worth today hinges heavily on meter function, lens clarity, and whether the collapsible tube operates smoothly.

The only existing prototype and working sample of the new design from 1981. It represents a complete revision of the original design, while still maintaining a compact form of the original Rollei 35. The most important feature added to this camera was a rangefinder operable with the small gear at the top - the only Rollei 35 with such feature. The constructors adressed many other issues as well: the battery compartment is now accessible from the outside, the rear doors are hinged, which makes film changing easier, the retractable lens is operated with a lever and includes an automatic lens cap.
