Leitz IIf

The Leitz IIf is a 35mm screw-mount (LTM) rangefinder camera produced by Ernst Leitz in Wetzlar during the early 1950s. It is a simplified sibling of the IIIf, sold as a lower-priced option without the slow-speed dial, and sits within the Barnack-bodied family that preceded the bayonet-mount M series.

At recent UK auction in 2024 and 2025, hammer prices for IIf bodies have clustered in the £160–£240 band, with a median close to £200 — wholesale saleroom levels rather than dealer retail. Earlier results from 2009–2016 reached £300–£650, so today's market sells for noticeably less than the peak collector years, and condition, originality and the presence of a matching screw-mount lens make the biggest difference to what a IIf is worth.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Leitz IIf worth today?

In today's UK auction market a clean IIf body typically sells for around £160–£240 at hammer, with outliers above and below depending on cosmetics and whether a lens is included.

How much does a Leitz IIf sell for at UK auction?

Recent hammer prices in 2024 and 2025 have ranged from £160 to £238, giving a median value close to £200 before buyer's premium.

Is the red-dial IIf worth more than the black-dial version?

Both red-dial and black-dial variants appear in the sales record at broadly similar price levels, so condition and completeness tend to influence value more than dial colour alone.

Why is a IIf cheaper than a IIIf?

The IIf omits the slow-speed dial fitted to the IIIf, so collectors generally pay a premium for the fuller-featured IIIf while the IIf offers a lower entry price into the screw-mount Leica family.
