Leitz M Typ 240
The Leitz M Typ 240 is a 35mm-format digital rangefinder camera, introduced in the 2010s as part of Leitz's M-system line. It uses the Leica M bayonet mount and was positioned as a professional-tier digital body within the M range when new.
Sales data for the M Typ 240 is limited, with a single UK auction hammer result of £2,600 recorded in 2020. With only one wholesale saleroom data point, today's value range cannot be reliably stated, and what a clean example sells for in 2026 may differ materially from this figure depending on shutter count, sensor condition, and accessories.

Auction: Leitz Auction 27 (Lot AI_27_32172) Title: Leica M 'Kinderlachen'
Description:
This camera is a fund-raiser based on the collaboration between Leica and the non-profit organisation Kinderlachen e.V. It is one of two unique Leica cameras (Leica M no.4889418 and Leica M-E no.3333535) with Kinderlachen designs. All of the proceeds will go towards projects carried out by Kinderlachen e.V. Two unique Leica models were created as part of a Kinderlachen e.V. project with children in Dortmund. The children were given cardboard versions of the Leica M rangefinder camera, which they were free to paint and decorate as they pleased. The result was 140 paper works of art, which are still exhibited at the Leitz Park in Wetzlar. In return for the vivid designs, the company chose two cardboard cameras that served as a template for the Munich-based artist Helmut Lutter to transform real Leica products to yield two remarkable and truly unique Leica rangefinder cameras. The M-E Kinderlachen is available in the next lot. Estimate: EUR 16,000 - EUR 20,000 |
